Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a cosmetic dental treatment that improves the appearance of your teeth. The treatment uses a series of clear plastic aligners that straighten teeth without braces, wires, or brackets. There are no restrictions for foods and drinks, and you don’t have to worry about brackets irritating your mouth. Many people won’t notice you’re wearing clear aligners.

How do Invisalign aligners work?

Invisalign aligners work to improve teeth alignment over time. You wear each set of aligners over the top of your teeth and switch to a new set of aligners after about a week or two. Your dentist customizes each treatment to give you the best outcome.

Is Invisalign right for me?

Adults and teens can benefit from Invisalign treatment. Your dentist lets you know if you’re a good candidate for clear aligners after reviewing your medical history and examining your teeth.

They complete dental X-rays and discuss your desired outcome. If you have an oral health problem, such as gum disease or tooth decay, your provider can treat it prior to beginning Invisalign treatment.

What happens during treatment?

Your Wakim Cosmetic and Family Dental Group dentist digitally scans your teeth to map out an Invisalign treatment plan. They show you the anticipated results and send the scans to a dental lab, where technicians fabricate your new custom-fit aligners.

When the aligners are ready, you can begin wearing them. Wear each set of aligners for 20-22 hours a day, seven days a week, and switch to a new set after a week or two. Take the aligners out when you eat and brush your teeth.

See your dentist after about 8-10 weeks to make sure your treatment is progressing as it’s supposed to. Invisalign treatment might last an average of 15 months.

How should I care for Invisalign aligners?

Keep your aligners clean by brushing them with toothpaste and a toothbrush, or using the Invisalign cleaning system. Rinse aligners in lukewarm water. Brush your teeth after eating, before placing aligners back in your mouth, to reduce bacteria and prevent staining. Call Wakim Cosmetic and Family Dental Group if your aligners break or get lost.

When you’re ready for straight teeth and an aesthetically pleasing smile you feel confident about, schedule a consultation at Wakim Cosmetic and Family Dental Group by phone or online to find out if Invisalign is right for you.
